If you hadn't noticed already, there are a distressing number of white paint options out there to choose from. I say distressing because each white can look significantly different from one space to another, and even the same white can look different in the same space from one day to the next. When you do manage to find a white you love, you may then discover it looks nothing like what you thought it would. Even if you have seen it in a photo or painted out in a different space or have even gone as far as getting a sample and painting out a part of a wall in your own space. There are many reasons why a colour can fool you and look very different when the whole room is painted and put together. Some variables to consider when choosing white for your space include: the availability of natural light (size and number of windows), direction of natural light (skylights, NESW facing), environmental surroundings (snow vs green trees vs cement or a red brick wall), interior decor including floor colour, ceiling colour, wood details, furniture upholstery and placement of mirrors; even the quality of paint you are using can cause colour shifts from one can to the next and over time when exposed to sunlight. Remember, every type of white has an undertone and it is important to make sure it is reflecting correctly in your specific space. Happy hunting!
